In recent years, modern veterinary science has provided us with a better understanding of the impact of emotional well-being on your pet’s physical health and the importance of recognizing and reducing fear, anxiety and stress (FAS).
Dr. Hensler has made this integrative approach a staple in her house call services as pets are usually most comfortable in their own environments. A house call approach allows your pet to receive their regular wellness visit without the stress of a being caught and confined to a carrier, going for a long car ride, experiencing strange noises or smells, and seeing other owners with their pets.
We also use a combination of Fear Free techniques based on your pets individual needs and comfort level which may include: use of the pheromones Adaptil (dogs) and Feliway (cats), verbal praise, food rewards* (peanut butter, cream cheese, spray can cheese, marshmallows, churro paste), reduced restraint, swaddling with our Calm & Cozy Cat Wrap, and appointment length adjustment.
* Please alert us prior to your appointment if anyone in your home may suffer from an allergy so we can avoid bringing those specific food rewards with us.
It is no longer acceptable to “just get it done”. For pets who are extra nervous or fearful extended appointment times, an additional visit, and/or use of anti-anxiety medication may be needed in order to thoroughly complete their wellness visits. We understand that all pets are unique and we cater our approach to every patient based on their specific needs and comfort level.
